Hesarak Interchange in the city of Karaj

It has been around 30 years that Hesarak Overpass Bridge in Karaj has been used to solve the traffic disorder between Kamalshahr and the downtown core of the city. But now the observations at peak hours indicate the inability of the bridge to bear the traffic volume. In order to solve this problem, The Hesarak Interchange in Karaj was designed based on the requirements of urban development and road transportation between the provinces of Tehran, Alborz, Qazvin and other provinces in North and West of the country. At this intersection, all possible permissions are considered to facilitate highway traffic. The construction of Hesarak interchange will result in a considerable decrease in traffic interference and elimination of several intersections and gridlock within the project area. This project is one of the largest construction projects in Alborz province and west of the capital.

Karaj Interchange includes six main bridges which were designed as a combination of post-tensioned prestressed concrete and concrete boxes so that the combination just occupied the least surface to carry out the ramps and loops. In this Interchange, approximately 4.5 km decks and ramps will be implemented which is unique in its kind in the country. The project consists of 47 piers, 9 abutments and 8 access ramps creating one of the three-level Interchanges in the country. In the project all materials and building processes are defined under the supervision of national and international standards guidelines.
